With businesses now working harder than ever before to improve their energy efficiency and help tackle climate change, it is becoming harder to justify keeping traditional fluorescent and incandescent lighting in buildings when LED energy saving lighting is proving its worth every day.
However, for many, the initial upgrade to LEDs can be a daunting prospect, mainly due to the higher upfront costs, disruption and their installation. But the incentive to install LED energy saving lighting has never been greater, with companies being able in some cases to potentially gain a discount of 40% of the total installation cost, as well as reaping forward energy savings of up to 80%, say lighting experts EcolightingUK.
LED energy saving lighting is also much better for the environment than its predecessors as customers make energy savings in excess of 70% over fluorescent lighting. The initial extra costs are often paid for in less than three years in energy savings and they also come with many benefits from lifespan through to technology and how much they can help the environment.
Fluorescent lighting has a much shorter lifespan than LEDs, so much so in fact that the difference is as high as a staggering 24,000 hours. The main difference is measured in the quality of light over time as LEDs will maintain their brightness throughout their life unlike fluorescents that suffer lumen depreciation and flicker or buzz as they begin to fail and reach the end of their lives.

“Ecolighting have been a pleasure to work with and have fitted our huge site with energy efficient and effective LED lighting. The new lights were fitted in our new facility for reverse logistics and are a nice clean white, are sensitive to movement, easy to maintain and can be moved around if necessary.”
Mark Currie, CEO of Mantra Learning
LEDs are very popular in offices, industrial and commercial properties, and aside from the financial and environmental factors, the most obvious and instant benefit of LED lighting is the superior light quality that the new technology generates. The result of a lighter and brighter working environment is improved visibility and enhanced workplace safety for employees, and results have shown that following installations workforces are always delighted with the improvements in their daily working environments.
Lighting accounts for nearly 6% of the world’s CO2 emissions, so a global switch to energy efficient light emitting diode (LED) technology could save over 1,400 million tons of CO2 and avoid the construction of 1,250 power stations, something that is extremely relevant in today’s society.
Unlike many other lighting companies in the market, Ecolighting has its own onsite team of lighting and electrical installation engineers as well as carrying out the lighting scheme design with Relux software in the early stages of client lighting projects. The company also manufactures its luminaires in the UK and uses UK-sourced Osram control gear and LED chips. All of this means that the company has much better control than many and can present better value for money to its clients. The company is assessed to BSEN ISO 9001:2015 and are members of the Lighting Industry Association.
As one of the UK leaders in LED lighting solutions to commerce and industry, Ecolighting has worked with many other big name companies such as Amazon, Bibby Distribution, Kuehne Nagel, Debenhams, Carlsberg, Culina, Cadbury and Great Bear to provide superior LED lighting solutions to a number of environments.
